What is Pelvic Health Physiotherapy?
Pelvic health is a specialized type of physiotherapy that focuses on the assessment and treatment of the pelvic floor muscles.  The pelvic floor is a group of muscles in your pelvis that support your organs against gravity. They help control your bowel and bladder function, stabilize the spine and pelvis as well as play an important role in sexual activity.

What to expect?

The initial assessment usually takes around 60 minutes. Once your appointment is booked, you will receive an email that will include online forms that are to be filled out prior to your initial assessment. The goal is to get an in-depth understand of what is driving your pain - whether it is tissue or nervous system based.

Each assessment will be a bit different, but most will assess muscles, joints and connective tissues of the low back, pelvis, hips, and abdomen. If an internal exam is indicated, you will be given privacy to change and use a draped sheet to cover your lower half. An internal examination is the most accurate to assess the integrity of the pelvic structures. If you are not comfortable with an internal exam, there are many structures we can treat externally to help increase your function.

If you are ready to make your pelvic health a priority, please call us today to book your appointment.
